Terry cotton is an embroiderer’s favorite as it is an easy material to work with. Although terry towels can be a great addition to your embroidery projects, they are hard as regular towels. However, they make perfect personalized gifts when handled well. If you are thinking of towel embroidery, this article is for you! Here, I have listed some of the tips to follow while working with terry cloths.
Preparing the fabric
As same as preparing any other material for embroidery, terry towel also needs to be prewashed and dried under the sun, before commencing your projects. It will eliminate unwanted chemical compounds and hardening substances from the fabric.
Design
If you are planning to use it as a regular towel, rather than as a display item, use solid patterns as it resists normal wear and tears. Unless you can create delicate designs with thin stitches.
Needle size
Use a needle size that is easy to work with. A 14 needle is ideal as its extra sharpness allows the needle to move through the fabric without distressing it.
Stabilizer
Although you can use a stabilizer of your choice, using cutaway stabilizers is the best choice. It adds extra support and durability to attach the design to the material.
Use design templates
Use a digitized machine embroidery template to place your design appropriately. If your machine does not include a template, you can always visit Apex Designs for digitized embroidery solutions.
