Preparing your fabric for embroidery

You may have come across incidents where the material you have selected for the embroidery projects has started to fall apart when you are partially through completing it. It could be frustrating to know when this has happened due to your own fault. To avoid such careless mistakes, one should prepare their fabric beforehand. Here is how to do it.

Prewash

Think about the use of your embroidery project and what the purpose of it is. For instance, if it is a dress or pillowcase, you definitely will have to prewash the material before commencing the project. However, it needs to be handled with care according to the washing instructions labeled on the cloth. You may also test the textile against shrinkage and colorfastness. Use a mild detergent and do not use any fabric softeners on the material.

If it is a bag or coaster, then you will not have to prewash the textile.

Pressing

Iron the cloth while it is damp to avoid wrinkles. Also, make sure that the ironing board and the iron is free of dirt.
